Objective
- supporting cooperation among stakeholders especially on the local and regional level,
- exchanging and transferring experience in the field of regional policy,
- jointly improving and developing regional policy approaches, strategies and instruments.
Priorities for projects
- innovation and knowledge economy (including innovation, research and technology development, entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), information society, employment, human capital and education).
- environment and risk prevention (including natural and technological risks, water management, waste prevention and management, energy and sustainable transport, biodiversity and preservation of natural heritage).
Programme area and countries involved
With regard to interregional cooperation, the whole EU territory is eligible for funding. All EU 27 member states as well as third countries like Switzerland and Norway thus participate in the programme.
Programme volume/funding
- The programme is managed by a central Joint Technical Secretariat in Lille, France, and has a total volume of around 321 million euros for the period 2007 to 2013. Bodies governed by public law (see Directive 2004/17/EC) from the participating countries can be funded.
- The project funding rate is between 75% and 85%.
- Project applications can be submitted within certain limited application periods – so-called calls for proposals. These calls are organised by the programme management for all the countries participating in the programme and announced in the Internet.
- The partners involved in the project must nominate a leading partner, the so-called Lead Partner. He or she holds the overall responsibility for the project towards the programme management.
Programme language
The whole communication in connection with the project proposal and management (e.g. application, submission and production of interim reports, payment requests, general information material etc.) is in English.
