Information on the cross-border programmes (INTERREG IV A)

In the programming period 2007-2013, the INTERREG A initiative will be continued by the "cross-border cooperation" strand of the European Territorial Cooperation objective. It supports an improved cross-border cooperation, especially with regard to

• promoting entrepreneurial initiatives and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), tourism, cultural activities and cross-border activities;
• promoting and improving the joint protection and management of the natural and cultural heritage and avoiding natural and technological hazards;
• strengthening urban-rural relations;
• reducing isolation by improving the access to transport, information and communication networks and services as well as to cross-border water, waste management and energy systems and related facilites;
• strengthening cooperation, capacities and a common use of infrastructures especially in areas such as health, culture, tourism and education.

In Germany there are 14 cross-border programmes which are decentrally managed. The cities and districts involved will be presented in the following map.
