INTERREG B
Cooperation. Without borders.
Following the enlargement of the European Union towards the east, Europe’s economic, social and territorial cohesion has gained fresh importance. The EU addresses this challenge with the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Under the objective "European Territorial Cooperation" (INTERREG IV), the EU promotes
- cross-border cooperation through joint local and regional initiatives (Strand A),
- transnational cooperation aiming at achieving an integrated territorial development (Strand B),
- interregional cooperation and the exchange of experience (Strand C).
The information on this website (Interreg.de) refers to Strand B, i.e. transnational cooperation. Information on the other two strands, which are implemented by the Länder, can be found above.
The Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) within the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) supports transnational cooperation by
- participating in relevant programme committees,
- supporting key projects of special interest to the Federal Government,
- organising cross-programme exchange in Germany,
- dissemination and communication.
In the context of the Federal funding programme
"Transnational Cooperation", the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs and the BBSR support German project partners in raising national co-financing, in developing project applications and in running effective communications.
This site contains information (in German) about the five cooperation areas with German participation (Baltic Sea, Central Europe, Alpine Space, North-West Europe and North Sea Region). Selected Lighthouse projects illustrate the results which INTERREG B projects can deliver in the fields of climate change, economic development, mobility and demographic change. A database (in German) contains information on all running projects in the five cooperation areas.
